Town hall chiefs have called for extra funding to prevent a bed-blocking crisis this winter, as new research reveals stark variations in the amount councils pay for care.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has called on Whitehall to give councils in England and Wales a £210m slice of the Government's Winter Resilience Funding pot, as they prepare for increased demand during the next few months.
