Councils could be left powerless to prevent the installation of mobile phone masts under government proposals, the Local Government Association (LGA) has warned.

A clause in the Growth and Infrastructure Bill, extending planning deregulations first proposed for broadband street cabinets to anything connected to telecommunications infrastructure, could mean local authorities and residents are left without the right to prevent phone mast construction, the LGA said.
