Fewer services for more council tax

Head of local government at Grant Thornton UK, Paul Dossett, looks at what the sector can expect from Wednesday's Budget.

In recent weeks the chancellor has issued several warnings about the strength of the UK economy. 

For local government the subtext is that the sector will continue to face significant financial challenges in the medium-term and growing the local tax base – both council tax and business rates – will be critical if services are going to be funded beyond 2020.
