The impact of poverty on council children's services saw calls for action this week from MPs and councillors, as ministers moved to softened welfare reforms.

As the Local Government Association (LGA) revealed poverty had played a key part in an 85% increase in child protection plans over the decade, the Commons select committee on work and pensions demanded the two-child limit linked to Universal Credit be lifted.
