Figures show fall in workless households

Official figures reveal nearly one fifth of UK households are workless.

Nearly one fifth of UK households are workless - a figure which includes 5 million working age adults and 1.8 million children - official figures issued today reveal.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) the number of workless households fell for a second consecutive year in 2012 to 3.7 million households, 17.9% of the total compared with 18.7% a year earlier.
