The Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill last Thursday received Royal Assent, opening the door to greater devolution of local public services to cities and enabling the Government to fulfil the commitments it has made via the series of devolution deals.

The passage of the act is important as a number of key aspects to the deals signed to date depend upon its provisions.
