'Firebreak' in Universal Credit rollout but government stands firm

Work and pensions secretary David Gauke has said there will be a ‘firebreak’ in the rollout of Universal Credit in January, but insisted this was always part of the plan.

Work and pensions secretary David Gauke has said there will be a ‘firebreak' in the rollout of Universal Credit in January, but insisted this was always part of the plan.

Giving evidence to the Work and Pensions Committee this morning, Mr Gauke said that the plan for UC had always been a ‘test and learn, gradual, steady rollout that gets the balance right'.
