A flexible plan for every sick child

North Yorkshire CC is proposing to adopt a virtual school approach and more options for learning for those who can’t attend school because of medical needs. Jane le Sage explains the thinking behind the strategy.

We approved our Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) Strategic Plan for Educational Provision 2018-23 last year, detailing the developments in provision for children and young people with SEND. The plan is underpinned by strong principles, agreed with partners, which include early identification and intervention so that children's needs are spotted at the earliest stage, together with joint commitment and accountability for their outcomes.

Within the plan, North Yorkshire describes its intention to change the way we support children and young people who are unable to attend school due to their medical needs.
