Councils in the North East are considering applying for grants from central government under the Bellwin scheme to help pay for the clean up following last week's flash floods.

Several local authorities – including Durham CC, Newcastle City Council and North Tyneside MBC – swung into action after torrential rain swept through the region last Thursday.
