Over 1,500 flood-hit families will receive assistance with their council tax bills, after the Government granted 25 councils a total of £1.2m in extra assistance.

Over 1,500 flood-hit families will receive assistance with their council tax bills, after the Government granted 25 councils a total of £1.2m in extra assistance.

Local government minister John Healey revealed on 7 November the full list of councils with residents still affected by last year's floods and eligible for further council tax discounts.

Many families are still unable to use their homes following the freak weather conditions last summer, making them exempt from the tax.

Hull City Council will distribute over £445,000 to help 500 families, while Tewksbury Council will get £233,000 to support 130 families.

Other councils to benefit from the plan include West Berkshire, East Riding and Wychavon.
