Communities secretary, Eric Pickles, should concentrate on what really matters in local government and allow all other decisions to be made at a local level, the chair of the communities and local government select committee, Clive Betts, has claimed.

Speaking at a conference in central government, Mr Betts criticised Mr Pickles for claiming to be a localist while interfering in 'micro' issues like bin collections.
