FoI charge likely for authorities

Councils could soon be charging for freedom of information (FoI) requests if the Government gives the thumbs up in a review of the system.

Constitutional affairs secretary Lord Falconer is currently reviewing the system and wants to introduce fees for burdensome requests. A spokesman for his department said: ‘We said we would review fees and a proper review covers everything. However, it is unlikely that there will be a flat rate for FoI requests.
