With a new Social Housing Regulation Bill expected to become law this summer, Kelsey Walker looks at how local authorities can get ready for the new regime and prepare for performance measurement.

Local authorities have had an arm's-length relationship with the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH), but all that is now set to change.

The Social Housing Regulation (SHR) Bill that significantly ratchets up the focus on consumer regulation for all local authority landlords, and other social landlords, was published last week and is expected to make its way into law this summer. Proactive consumer regulation will soon be with us, so what can local authorities do to get on the front foot?
