Freedom urged

The Government is being urged to give councillors greater freedom to speak up for local communities in opposing late night drinking.

A powerful parliamentary committee has also backed council demands to be allowed to charge higher fees so they are not out of pocket, following the transfer of pub licensing from magistrates to local authorities.
