Government policies and funding to support local growth must be strengthened and simplified to prevent deficit-reduction efforts from strangling economic recovery, senior officials warned this week.

The Association of Directors of Economy, Environment, Planning and Transport (ADEPT) has invited ministers to sit down with local authorities to discuss a more simplified approach to infrastructure funding.
