Gambling and the vulnerable

With widespread local concern over controls on gambling establishments in communities, Rob Burkitt explains how new research could help councils examine their local profile

Gambling is never far from the headlines either locally or nationally, whether in debates in Parliament or in the council chamber, where frequently the concern expressed is about the ability of the local authority to control the number of gambling premises and their location.

Very often these issues focus on betting shops and the machines they offer, commonly called FOBTs.
