Gateshead chief executive to step down

Gateshead City Council chief executive Roger Kelly announces he is to retire next March.

Gateshead City Council chief executive Roger Kelly has announced he is to retire next March after eight years in the post and the council is to begin a search for his replacement this week.

Mr. Kelly joined Gateshead in 1987 as deputy director of legal services and was appointed chief executive in April 2004. He is also chief executive for Northumbria Police Authority and is clerk to the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear.
