Communities secretary, Eric Pickles, has announced an extra £1m of funding to help retired Gurkha soldiers and their families integrate into civilian life in areas throughout the UK with existing veteran populations.

In 2009, the Government surrendered in its long-running battle with the Nepalese fighters – allowing those who served in the British Army before 1997 to settle in the UK.
