Newcastle City Council has appointed the Kajima Partnerships consortium as preferred bidder in a £40.4m private finance initiative to build two new libraries.

Kajima beat off a challenge from Information Resources to secure the preferred bidder status on the scheme which involves the demolition and replacement of the city and High Heaton libraries.
