Communities secretary Eric Pickles this week launched a £6m fund to help people with poor command of spoken English.

In a rare speech on community integration on 15 January, Mr Pickles outlined the Government's commitment to boosting literacy for people in areas where an inability to master conversational English remained a barrier to education and work.
