£75m leaves general public clueless about their PCC

Almost 90% of residents in England and Wales have no idea who their Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is.

Almost 90% of residents in England and Wales have no idea who their Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is despite the £75m price tag for the elections last year, according to a report released this week.

The Electoral Reform Society's How Not to Run an Election cites a Populus poll showing 89% of respondents did not know their PCC. ERS's report blames 'government mismanagement' for the 15.1% turnout for the PCC vote on 15 November 2012 and states voters were 'left in the dark about who they could vote for' while candidates were kept away by large deposits and unclear eligibility rules.
