Getting your clause into new housing

Jason Longhurst reflects on Central Bedfordshire’s implementation of a Five Year Delivery Clause for developers applying for planning permission on residential schemes.

Like every other local authority in the country, Central Bedfordshire is charged with delivering housing growth and, no doubt like every other council we are consistently frustrated by the pace of delivery on approved sites.

In May this year we implemented, for the first time, a new planning clause that would ensure developers agree build-out rates and contribute to our five-year shortfall.
