Getting ready for the big procurement shake-up

Guy Stapleford of Procurement for Housing looks at how buyers can get their communication right and their local authority ready for the new procurement regulations.

The largest overhaul of public buying rules in decades has just become law. Although local authorities won't have to comply with the Procurement Act until October 2024, a six-month implementation period begins in just a few months and council buyers must be ready.

I worked for years in different local authority procurement teams so I know just how much change these new regulations will bring. Councils will face increased transparency demands along with more stringent measurement and reporting requirements. This means a lot more issuing of notices and redacting of contracts.
