Giving local government finance teams a reboot

Technology is transforming local government finance teams and officers will have to harness the potential of data if their roles are to last another 20 years, says David Smith

The role of the finance professional is constantly evolving. In the last 20 years, the profession has moved further away from traditional book-keeping and toward becoming more involved in setting strategy for organisations.

As a result, finance professionals have to look into the future to anticipate problems and deal with the financial and commercial implications before they have an impact – we could add ‘fortune telling' to the list of skills our trainees require when we hire them!
