Local authority staff belonging to the GMB trade union are set to join strike action on 10 July - which could involve up to 2 million public workers, following the results of a strike ballot.
Some 26,281 GMB members, representing nearly three-quarters (73%) of those who voted, approved plans to hold the planned 24-hour walkout with 9,799 rejecting strike action on 23% turnout.
GMB national secretary, Brian Strutton said the union's membership had ‘spoken loud and clear and said they want to go on strike'.
