ECONOMIC GROWTH

Going back to our roots

Government in all its forms was good at encouraging private sector investment into places before it lost its way, says Jackie Sadek. She points to some route maps to help get private funding flowing again.

A change of Government, but no money in the kitty. What can the local government sector possibly hope for from the new mob? A shift in energy? A change in emphasis? We're on our knees here, any chance of any support?

Well…we all know there are only three main ways for local authorities to increase income. The first, local tax raising, is immensely challenging, as I don't need to tell any of you. The second is more direct support from central Government, and that ain't going to happen any time soon, never mind how unfair it all is (and it is).
