Martin Reeves says despite the Treasury’s positive assessment of the Total Place pilots over a decade ago, the initiative fell off the radar. He calls on the new Prime Minister to ‘reinvigorate a successor’.

Any analysis of local government's current challenges must start with the parlous financial situation that the sector continues to face.

The perpetual absence of funding certainty is not just administratively challenging but means councils are not able to manage their resources in the most effective and efficient way. The next iteration of this Government must give the sector some real assurance over its future finances sooner rather than later.
