The cost of Government help for household energy bills coupled with soaring inflation pushed borrowing last month to near-record levels.

Borrowing last month was the fourth highest for October since 1993 at £13.5bn or £4.4bn more than the same month in 2021, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
