Government to use credit-checking agencies to battle fraud

The Government is planning to save £1.2bn of taxpayer’s money by using credit checking companies to investigate benefit cheats.

The Government is planning to save £1.2bn of taxpayer's money over the next few years by using credit checking companies to investigate benefit cheats.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have already started using private firms under a pilot scheme, which is part of the Cabinet Office's Counter Fraud Taskforce.
