Senior Labour local government leaders and MPs have accused the Government of ignoring the impact of funding cuts that are ‘tearing apart' society.

In a strongly worded joint statement, mayors and council leaders from across the country claimed the Government had ‘closed their eyes' to damage caused by a reduction in spending to ‘intolerable' levels.
