Next steps proposals heralding a shift towards new localised audit arrangements for councils have been published by the Government.

Issued in response to last year's consultation on establishing a new framework for an audit system, following the decision to abolish the Audit Commission, ministers have confirmed the Government's intention to publish a draft bill this spring.
