The Government is to push ahead with further controversial voter ID pilots in the face of criticism that the project is being ‘rushed'.

In-depth evaluation of the trials by campaigners claimed this year's pilots were far from a success, with lower social and economic groups, people aged under 35 and those less politically active found more likely to be unaware they would have to show identification before voting.
