Government rejects levelling up mission on child poverty

A Lords’ amendment to the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill requiring a clear mission on child poverty has been rejected by the Government.

Parliamentary under-secretary of state Baroness Scott told the upper chamber: ‘The best and most sustainable way of tackling child poverty is to ensure parents have opportunities to move and progress in the workplace.'
