Government returns to 56-day limit for asylum hotels

The Government has reversed a move to reduce the time successful asylum seekers can remain in hotels before presenting to councils for support with accommodation.

The Government has reversed a move to reduce the time successful asylum seekers can remain in hotels before presenting to councils for support with accommodation.

The Home Office has now returned to the 56-day limit after the previous Conservative government reduced it to 28 days in an effort to cut the bill for housing newly-arrived asylum seekers in ‘contingency' hotels.
