Why do Governments fail to heed the advice of reviews?

There remains a huge unanswered question, says Heather Jameson. Why do Governments of all colours persist in commissioning independent reviews and ignoring the outcomes?

Adult social care may well be the service that gets all the attention when it comes to the cash crunch, but children's services has been rising rapidly up the agenda as a major headache since well before the pandemic.

The Government response to the MacAlister and other reviews, which was released last week, was a welcome attempt to start addressing some of the problems. But it has had a mixed response, including from Josh MacAlister himself.
