Continued opposition to health secretary Andrew Lansley's planned reforms shows no signs of abating during the parliamentary recess, with the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) joining the BMA's recent call for the health and social care Bill to be withdrawn.

Dr Clare Gerada, chair of the RCGP, said despite the listening exercise undertaken to reassure medical professionals, her members still harboured ‘real concerns' over the Bill. In addition to anxieties over ‘any willing provider' provisions, Dr Gerada also called for local hospital consultants to be allowed to sit on the boards of clinical commissioning groups.
