The former chairman of the Local Government Association has called on the sector's pension funds to grasp chancellor George Osborne's reforms with both hands.

Mr Osborne recently announced that the 89 local government pension scheme (LGPS) funds would be ‘encouraged' to merge into half a dozen wealth funds to save hundreds of millions in administration and costs.
