Greening gives HS2 go-ahead

Transport secretary Justine Greening has given the go-ahead to the first phase of the controversial High Speed 2 rail network.

Transport secretary Justine Greening has today given the go-ahead to the first phase of the controversial High Speed 2 rail network between London and Birmingham.

Calling for the country to 'embark upon the most significant transport infrastructure project since the building of the motorways', Ms Greening said the benefits would ‘extend beyond the network itself'.
