Grenfell could finally give public inquiries real teeth

Martin English reflects on the final Grenfell report, questioning if public inquiries can bring positive change and noting the lack of an overarching system to ensure inquiry recommendations are implemented

The final Grenfell report, published in September, marked the end of a seven-year long inquiry into the tragedy that saw 72 lives lost on June 14, 2017.

The report was not only a significant milestone on a wider journey for the building safety industry, but also brought the role of statutory inquiries as a whole into question.
