The Local Government Association's Tory group leader has stood down as boss of Bradford City Council after the party lost ground to Labour at the local elections.
Margaret Eaton formally handed the leadership over to her deputy Kris Hopkins at the end of last month but denied her decision had anything to do with the outcome of the election. The 4 May poll saw Labour overtake the Conservatives at Bradford, notching up 36 seats to the Tories' 33 on the 90-seat authority. Cllr Eaton stood down as leader following the poll – which saw Labour gain six seats, the Tories lose four and the Liberal Democrats drop one – but she insisted she had decided to do so before the elections.
