Why growth is still a priority

Ahead of the Spending Review, The MJ and PwC hosted a round table to examine how councils could overcome economic challenges and their key requests for the chancellor. Thomas Bridge reports

Council chief executives are now faced with an ever-increasing string of priorities. Among a myriad of responsibilities, these members of staff are overseeing spending reductions, directing sensitive choices around services and responding to the growing devolution movement.

With all of this on their plate, is the goal of achieving growth being left by the wayside? During the current climate, should it even be included on a council's agenda at all?
