Guidance for NHS public health staff transferring to councils

When responsibility for public health moves to local authorities from 1 April 2013 NHS staff, including directors of public health, will transfer as well. Michael Burton looks at the latest LGA guidance on how councils and the NHS should handle the transfer.

Under the NHS Bill an enhanced public health service based in local government will be set up from 1 April 2013. As a result NHS staff working on public health will transfer to council employment.
