Hackney through an anti-racist lens

Dawn Carter-McDonald says Hackney LBC’s commitment to being an actively anti-racist council is at the centre of its goals and values.

Hackney is one of the most culturally rich and vibrant places in the UK. I was born in Hackney to parents of the Windrush generation and I could not be more proud as the interim chief executive to currently lead the council of my home borough.

With one of the most diverse populations in London and England, Hackney is home to a varied set of communities. There are 89 different languages spoken in the borough.
