A joint chief executive of two district councils in Yorkshire has been put on ‘gardening leave' by one of the authorities, amid rumours of a strained relationship with councillors.

Hambleton DC announced last week that its most senior manager – Peter Simpson – was now on a paid leave of absence and would no longer be carrying out any duties for either Hambleton or neighbouring Richmondshire DC, where he also held the chief executive's post.
