Will Hammond deliver for local government?

Heather Jameson explains why the Autumn Statement might hold much for social care, housing and infrastructure but little on devolution

What can we expect from Philip Hammond's first Autumn Statement next week? Gone are the days when political predictions are a dead cert, but there are some expectations.

It is unlikely the chancellor's first set piece will have the glitz and pizzazz of his predecessor. George Osborne was a political showman, intent on launching each announcement with all the fanfare and fireworks he could muster – a style not suited to the understated Mr Hammond. He will want to throw the Treasury weight behind the Government's priorities.
