Hanningfield freed early from jail

Former Essex County Council leader Lord Hanningfield has been released early from prison, nine weeks into a nine-month sentence for fiddling over £14,000 in parliamentary expenses.

Former Essex County Council leader Lord Hanningfield has been released early from prison, nine weeks into a nine-month sentence for fiddling over £14,000 in parliamentary expenses.

The former Conservative peer, who was freed on early release, was jailed for claiming overnight stays in London when he had in fact been driven home 50 miles. He has been fitted with an electronic tag and is subject to curfew.
