Whatever happened to Homes fit for Heroes 100 years on?

Up until the 70s, people who worked hard but earned little could afford a place to live. Paul Wheeler says that covenant is now broken as he looks at some possible solutions.

By now we know that 2018 is the anniversary of some women's suffrage. Less well known, it is the anniversary of Lloyd George's Homes fit for Heroes speech. Needless to say, like all political promises, it took a few years to enact.

However, from the 1920s to the 1970s there was an understanding that those who worked hard but earned little would have access to good quality housing for themselves and their families. That covenant has sadly been broken.
