Less haste more speed

While there is a strong case for fiscal devolution to local government, the process could land councils with real difficulties unless done correctly. Sarah Witney explains the findings of a landmark report.

We are going to be asking a lot from our cities over the coming years. We want them to lead in reshaping our public services, to deliver more for less, and to play a full role as the country faces up to some major economic challenges.

All this is will be taking place against the backdrop of a rapidly globalising economy, where cities, rather than national governments will increasingly driving economic growth.
