A former president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) has taken over responsibility for Birmingham City Council’s children, young people and families service following the sudden departure of director Peter Duxbury.

The local authority announced on 18 July that Peter Hay, who is also the council's strategic director for adults and communities, will be in charge of the service in the interim.
