Head of Strategic Development and Investment - Tameside MBC

Salary £62,952 - £70,071

Situated at the eastern end of the Greater Manchester Conurbation, Tameside has a diverse mix of nine towns, beautiful countryside and a strong sense of place and community. Stretching from the City of Manchester to the Peak District, Tameside shares borders with Stockport, Oldham, Manchester and High Peak. The borough has excellent transport links which have helped attach major economic investment in the last decade.

As a Council, Tameside has an impressive record of performance, achievement, innovation and service transformation and is one of the most efficient Metropolitan Districts in the country.

Building on our success means taking advantage of current opportunities. For example significant transport investment means work is well underway to see the Metrolink line extended into Droylsden and Ashton by 2014, and the last leg of the Ashton Northern by-pass is nearing completion. This investment has given us the opportunity to bring superfast broadband into the borough enabling residents businesses and potential investors to take advantage of cutting edge digital technology.

In dealing with our challenges the Council seeks to achieve unprecedented financial savings against a background of increasing demand for services. In doing this, the Council is committed to protecting the vulnerable and needy and to protect jobs and services on which our community relies. We believe that Tameside can thrive best if we maintain and develop a strong local economy.

Details of relevant frameworks and policies can be found on the Council's website at www.tameside.gov.uk

Within this context we are seeking to recruit an exceptional candidate to take the lead on our Development, Investment, Housing, Transportation and Planning services.

To be successful in this role you will need to have experience of delivering high quality services with a track record in service excellence, innovation, improvement and performance. We are looking for someone with excellent communication and management skills who has a record of achieving success and influencing outcomes Although you will need a working knowledge of the legislative framework around development, planning, housing and transportation services, as important will be the ability to gain the trust and respect of our key stakeholders both in the Council and within the business and residential community.
